Unfortunately (for those of us promoting real, honest, ethical business opportunities) this recession is seeing a huge increase in the number of "scams" being promoted as well.
I've never seen so many illegal cash-gifting schemes, money-games, recycling-matrixes and fake "MLM opportunities" without genuine retailable products/services circulating as there are at the moment. It's a horrendous prospect, because in the long run all it does is collectively blacken the reputation of the home-based business-opportunity "industry".
This is partly a response to the fact that when people are desperate to find an additional income-source, it's easier to attract them into questionable/illegal programs, because not all of them do any "due diligence" at all (or know how to).
The better news is that America's Federal Trade Commission is now starting to take more of an interest.
